SIMPLE REGISTER

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 11, 2026

Simple Register is designed to provide a private, straightforward way to maintain a personal checkbook register. We believe your financial records should remain under your control. This policy explains what information Simple Register processes, where it is stored, and the choices available to you.

1. Information we collect

Simple Register does not require you to create an account with us. Simple Register does not intentionally collect or transmit:

Simple Register does not connect directly to banks or financial institutions.

2. Information you enter into the app

You may enter information such as register names, account balances, transaction amounts, payee names, check numbers, categories, notes, and reconciliation information. This information is used only to provide the features of Simple Register.

Depending on the settings you choose, this information may be stored:

Simple Register also offers a local-only mode: if you choose it, your registers stay on your device and are not synced through iCloud. Simple Register does not operate its own server, and the app never sends your register data to simpleregister.app or any other server we control.

3. iCloud and CloudKit

If you enable iCloud sync, Simple Register uses Apple iCloud and CloudKit to keep your registers synchronized across your supported Apple devices. Your data is stored in your own private iCloud (CloudKit) database and is processed by Apple under Apple's privacy policies and terms.

The developers of Simple Register cannot access the contents of your registers stored in iCloud. Apple does not expose users' private CloudKit databases to developers; the CloudKit console shows us only the app's data schema, aggregate telemetry, and data in our own account. We do not use any iCloud information for advertising, marketing, profiling, data brokerage, credit decisions, or financial-product recommendations.

To keep your devices up to date, iCloud may deliver silent background notifications to the app when your data changes. These notifications contain no message and no register content, display no alert, and require no notification permission — they exist only to prompt the app to sync.

4. Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Simple Register contains no advertisements, no in-app purchases, and no subscriptions, and it does not use your financial information for advertising. The app includes no third-party code. At the time this policy was published, Simple Register uses:

If any analytics, crash-reporting, attribution, or advertising service is ever added, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated to explain what information is transmitted.

5. Crash reports and diagnostics

Simple Register relies only on Apple's standard, opt-in crash and diagnostic reporting; it does not include any third-party crash-reporting service. When you choose to share analytics with app developers through your Apple device settings, Apple may provide us with reports that include information such as device model, operating system version, app version, technical crash details, and general performance information.

We use this information only to diagnose technical problems and improve the reliability of Simple Register. Crash reports are not intended to contain your transaction amounts, balances, payees, notes, or other register contents.

6. Face ID, Touch ID, and device authentication

Simple Register may allow you to protect access to the app using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. Biometric information is handled by Apple and your device. Simple Register does not receive, store, or transmit your fingerprint or facial-recognition data — the app receives only the result of the authentication request, such as whether it succeeded or failed.

7. Exported files

Simple Register may allow you to export register information in formats such as CSV or PDF. You control where exported files are saved or shared. Once information is exported, it may be accessible to other apps you choose, cloud-storage providers you choose, email recipients you select, or anyone with access to the destination where the file is stored. You are responsible for protecting exported files after they leave Simple Register.

8. Support communications

If you contact us for support, we may receive your name, your email address, the contents of your message, any screenshots or files you voluntarily provide, and device and app-version information you choose to provide. We use support communications only to respond to your request, investigate problems, and improve Simple Register.

Please do not send passwords, full bank account numbers, payment-card information, Social Security numbers, or other highly sensitive information in support messages. Support communications are retained for no longer than 24 months, unless a longer period is required for legal, security, or recordkeeping purposes.

9. Data retention and deletion

Register information stored locally remains on your device until you delete it, remove the app, erase the device, or use a deletion feature within the app. Deleted transactions are held in Recently Deleted for 30 days before being purged, or are removed immediately if you delete them permanently yourself.

On iPhone and iPad, deleting the app removes its local data. On the Mac, some data may remain in the app's container (in ~/Library/Containers) until you remove it. Information stored in iCloud remains in your iCloud account until you delete it through the app or through your Apple account and iCloud settings — including after the app has been removed. Deleted information may also persist temporarily in device backups, iCloud backups, or Apple system backups.

Because we do not operate a Simple Register account system or store your register database on our own servers, we may not be able to access or delete information stored only on your device or in your personal iCloud account.

10. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent your personal information. We do not share your financial register information with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.

Information may be processed by service providers only when necessary to operate features you choose to use — for example, the Apple App Store, Apple iCloud, and Apple CloudKit and diagnostic services, together with the providers we use to host this website and to receive support email. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

11. Legal requirements

We may disclose information we possess when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to a valid legal request, protect our legal rights, investigate fraud, abuse, or security concerns, or protect the safety of users or others. Because Simple Register is designed to minimize the information we receive, we may not possess the register or transaction information stored on your device or in your personal iCloud account.

12. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information handled through Simple Register and our support channels. However, no storage system, network, device, or electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for:

13. Children's privacy

Simple Register is not specifically directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through an account system, advertising system, or analytics platform. Parents or guardians who believe a child has sent personal information to us through a support request may contact us to request deletion.

14. International users

Simple Register may be available in multiple countries. Information processed by Apple or other service providers may be handled in countries other than the country where you live. Those providers are responsible for their own international data-transfer practices.

15. Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Simple Register's features, service providers, legal requirements, or privacy practices change. The updated policy will be posted at https://simpleregister.app/privacy, and the "Last updated" date above will show when it was most recently revised. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or the App Store listing when appropriate.
